Musings
My writing space. A blog, if you will, on what I learn from the school of life.
You need to compare to know where you are. You need to compare to make sure you pivot should you need. Or to be sure you are in tune with your process of transformation.
But to do all that, the only person you can compare with is yourself. If you don't compare, how would you know where you are, if you have moved forward or stayed in the same spot? Look around. Find your bearings. Are you where you expected to be? Further ahead or still behind? Stay inspired. Keep inspiring. It is difficult to argue yourself into a hard path when easier ones are there for the taking.
Cooking a homemade healthy meal vs the convenience of store-bought or a simple order from your favourite restaurant. Going to the gym vs watching TV on the couch. Taking the bicycle vs taking a taxi to go and run an errand. There will always be tempting options that will have a later cost. The only way that I know to avoid these traps is to use my “I am” statements. I am a healthy person that enjoys cooking, so I will cook and savour every moment of the process and the meal. I am a person who enjoys movement, not the stiffness of the couch. I will go to the gym and let my body feel this joy. I am a cyclist. This will be my treat to myself spending some extra time on the bicycle and enjoying the errand a little more. I am stronger and I am the only one working for myself. I owe myself protection from what seems easy because this is the Resistance in disguise. One battle at a time. One decision at a time. Even after a lost battle, there will be another one that can be won. That should be won. Stay inspired. Keep inspiring. When we lack time, it makes sense to watch an episode of your favourite series over a movie. Or to read something short, like one of these riffs over a book. Or to choose a podcast over an audiobook.
After all, a book or a movie is a commitment. One paid with the highest currency - time. But how often the episode turns to three, or does one short article becomes a couple more? Some long-term commitments tend to cost the same as their short-term counterparts. So if the cost is the same, what is stopping us to commit to something long-term? Especially when we have the added value of nuances and depth that the short form can rarely give us. Stay inspired. Keep inspiring. P.S. Thank you for being here. I do hope you will stay a little longer. |
