Musings
My writing space. A blog, if you will, on what I learn from the school of life.
I used to think that the goal in life was to find constant happiness.
But the examples I was given as a kid were unrealistic and unattainable. They were hard to relate - either about famous people or distant acquaintances that I never knew. And my own experience showed me a different reality. Living in a middle-class family in Eastern Europe had its challenges. It didn't mean we were unhappy, but I always imagined there was more to it. Especially according to the examples. What I didn't know of was the constant joy that the journey can bring. The blissful struggle of trying and failing, and yet trying again. The happiness obtained in becoming was a secret never whispered. It turns out, the comfort zone was not heaven but in fact hell. And beyond it is where the confidence zone is in - the place to embrace discomfort and trust the outcome. Stay inspired. Keep inspiring. Sometimes we wonder what happened to the artists we used to listen to.
The answer is often online. Many of the missing from my childhood, turns out to my surprise, still create music. There are also people that cross our paths in life. On an idle Wednesday, we remember them and wonder where are they now. The answer is a phone call away. Reach out. It might make their day. It will surely make yours. Stay inspired. Keep inspiring. We crave the sun’s warmth, the life-giving force that melts away winter’s chill. But we rarely savour its sweet kiss, its honeyed touch.
We have our own light and heat sources and artificial stimulants. We don’t need the sun to energise us. At least that's what we tell ourselves. And so we give up a part of our nature, the part that is full of radiant splendour. Stay inspired. Keep inspiring. We should embrace our complexity and depth as remarkable beings. Avoid the urge to show it all.
On the first fold of the website, with the first tune of the song, through the first scene of the movie. We bold and highlight, place arrows and scream loud with the hope to be noticed in our entirety. But everything we do, everything we are, is so much bigger then the first instance. Our toes are barely touched by the ocean, but it goes to depths many of us will never come to know. It stands there remarkable and mighty, open for those that dare to explore. Unbothered for those that prefer to stay on dry land. The same should be true for us too. As individuals or businesses, artists or teachers. It is impossible to show it all at a glance and that's the beauty of it. At least of everything remarkable. Stay inspired. Keep inspiring. What if today instead of seeing problems you saw only opportunities?
What if today you didn't hear any judgement in the voice of your boss, but care and love? What if today you didn't jump to conclusions but took a breath and asked more questions? What if you decide that today is going to be a great day? Stay inspired. Keep inspiring. When we lose a loved one, we often say to friends that life continues on and so do we. These experiences, no matter how traumatic, are also catalysts of sorts. They open our eyes and help us see if we were among the privileged few experiencing life, or one of those simply living.
Life continues on, that is for sure. But being an active participant is much better. Even if it comes later rather than sooner. Because life is for the living. Stay inspired. Keep inspiring. Holding on to the peace of the morning is a luxury in this modern world. We get up in a rush under the flood of messages, news, and fluorescent light.
And then there are those with a strict routine. One that is as slow as it needs to be. Lucky few or people with a secret? It seems it all comes down to the decisions made the night before. Having good sleep powers the day ahead. Enough rejuvenating blissful time under the covers. That is all that to live each day in its own right. Stay inspired. Keep inspiring. You don’t expect to have fun when you do chores of any kind. They are not supposed to be fun or pleasurable at all.
And yet, when you seek the curious instances of what happens at the moment, you can unearth the funniest moments. With such awareness you notice a small spider coming down the ceiling in a bank. The reaction - start humming the Mission Impossible theme song. You move away to not obstruct the TV and actually hide the awaited goal. And so on. Everything can be fun or at least pleasurable if you see the possibility and let it. Even chores. And spiders. Stay inspired. Keep inspiring. One of my favourite things as a 90s kid was to grab the remote and flip through the TV channels like a maniac. My parents hated that with passion. But my friends seem to be always in for one of those eye-watering rides.
I could never do that now, of course. Not with the TV at least. Now the wild flip has transformed into a wild scroll on my phone. But the same urgency is still there. The same conviction that l know what I want to flash in front of my eyes to stop. Or was it a childhood urge to reach the end, to move on, to change the pace without missing out? To grow up knowing we did it in the best way possible - being as busy as our parents were? And was that urge how we got to streaming, binge watching, social media, and the endless ‘I’m busy’ race we run as adults? Would we still have the conviction on our deathbeds that this was the kind of sprinting that we needed in life? Would we, at least then, make a case for slowing down? Stay inspired. Keep inspiring. The voices within are often not too kind. They push and pull in different directions. They make us doubt, question, and wonder if there is a better version of what we have. They make us unkind too, to ourselves and even those we love the most.
These thoughts are often those of the Resistance, trying to take the lead together with the Ego. We know ourselves by the inner struggle that we face. But everyone will always judge us by the battles won in action. We are not the voices inside our heads. We are what we act upon. Stay inspired. Keep inspiring. |
